 What is IDAC?

 Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC) draws members  from parents to represent our school at district level climate  assessment/problem-solving meetings. The primary purpose of the Intercultural Diversity Advisory Council (IDAC), originally formed in 1988 as the Intercultural Advisory Council, is to assist in the formation and review of policies that assure non-discriminatory practices in all operational areas of the Clovis Unified School District. Its further mission is to assist in improving the cultural environment of the District.

Benchmark Curriculum

The Benchmark curriculum includes texts from Kindergarten to 5th grade that is inclusive and exposes students to a variety of perspectives.

 

Collections Curriculum

Character and SEL Education

Character and Social Emotional Education (SEL) happen all year long through the Positivity Project, 2nd Step Curriculum, Mind Up Curriculum and more.  

Positivity Project: Daily, students learn about the 24-character strengths that we all have inside of us! Our staff uses the Positivity Project curriculum to instill these strengths into our students along with the other people matter mindset! 

Assemblies: We strive to provide positive assemblies throughout the year that teach students the importance of good character, positive relationships, being a good citizen, and inclusion!

2nd Step and Mind Up: Both of these curriculums are utilized throughout the school year with students to help build social skills within students. They are designed to increase children’s social skills and other protective factors.

 

Social Media Education


Students are educated throughout the year about responsible usage of Social Media utilizing the curriculum found on the Common Sense Media website.  

Our school was re-certified as a Common Sense Media School for the work our team has done!

 

Mac n Kids

Mac n Kids is a multicultural event that celebrates many cultures.  Students and their families attend to learn more about different cultures, their music, traditions, history, clothes, and food!

 

Supplemental Curriculum

Core curriculum is supplemented with research based curriculum that enhances our school-wide efforts.  Supplemental curriculum is engaging and designed to meet the needs of all students!
 

Acceptance and Understanding of All



We encourage inclusion of all students across our campus through daily experiences and a variety of activities

Digital Citizenship
Oraze will continue to be a "Digital Citizenship" school. Oraze will use lessons from Common Sense Media to teach students about their digital footprint, cyberbullying, online privacy, and safe communication.
 

Human Relations Council (HRC)


Mix It Up Day 
Mix It Up Day happens throughout the year when students are encouraged to sit with other students who they don't normally hang out with and encourages them to get to know someone new!

Holidays Around the World 
Classrooms each picked a different country and learned about the Holiday's celebrated there. Then, classes decorated their doors to match the Holiday and taught other's about the Holiday's from the country they picked.
 
Kindness Counts
Staff and students have been challenged to spread kindness like confetti on and off of our Bearcat Campus this year!

 

Student Council


The Oraze student council meets regularly and has worked throughout the year to share the ideas of students with staff in order to improve the culture of the school. They have also worked in conjunction with HRC to plan and coordinate a variety of events to encourage inclusion and promote positive inter-group relations. Our student council has also coordinated community service events throughout the year to promote giving back to our community and helping others. 
 
Our student council and HRC students are also taught leadership lessons throughout the school year!

 

Multicultural Dance


We currently have Hmong and Folclorico Dance Teams who practice weekly and perform at a variety of school events throughout the year.

 

Hmong Dance
Our Hmong Dance group performs at events throughout the year, such as Mac N Kids, Volunteer Tea, IDAC, and carnival.  The students also learn about Hmong culture!
 

Folklorico
Our Folklorico Dance group performs at a variety of events throughout the year including Mac N Kids, the volunteer tea, carnival, IDAC meetings, and a multicultural dance event! 

 

Mac N Kids

Our Multicultural Advisory Committee (MAC N Kids) is designed to bring parents and community members onto our campus to help us to learn about and celebrate the cultures of our community!  These events happen throughout the year in the evening and are hosted by staff members, parents, and students.  Our multicultural dance teams are also featured at these events!
 

 

 

Principal's Advisory Committee


Purpose: To bring student groups together to create a better understanding of and mutual respect for each other's perspectives and share ideas for increasing student achievement and the culture of the school. This student group meets a minimum of four times a  year and students involved should be willing to share ideas on how Oraze can continue to be an amazing place to learn!

 

 Who is on the committee?
Upper grade students who represent a variety of student groups and Mrs. McAvoy

 

Multicultural Club


Advisors:  Estarla Santos and Brittney Wassing

Goal:  To teach students about different cultures and traditions from around the world and instill the ideas of acceptance for all within our students. 

Activities include:

  • Research projects
  • Art from around the world 
  • Guest speakers
  • Music from around the world 

 

Events & Activities
We have a variety of other activities to build school culture and relationships that happen throughout the year. These events include Olympic Days, Rallies, Rodeo Days, Dr. Seuss Day, themed dress up days, talent show, Red Ribbon Week, Character Counts week, Patriotic event, Holidays Around the World, Walk to School Day, Lunch on the Lawn, Rock Your School Day, and more!
 

Utilization of parent input is offered through a number of forums including site and community organization groups to ensure a diverse representation. These groups allow for on-going dialogue to take place between school staff and parents. These groups include all of the following below.
 

Back to School Night

This event is our annual kick-off to school event where families are encouraged to come, meet the staff, and explore the school for the new year!
 

Academic Showcase

Academic Showcase is held mid-way through the year and is another invitation to families to be on campus and to see everything there student has learned throughout the year!

Carnival


A diverse group of individuals gathered around tents, enjoying an outdoor event in a lively atmosphere.

The school carnival is held the first week in May!  Families and community members are invited to join the fun as we have food, games, and vendors on campus.  It is a great way to meet other Bearcat families!

In this inspiring tale, readers of all ages can benefit from this transformational lesson. This is a book and message that, when read and shared, has the power to change your life and the world around you. Readers were challenged to decide: are you a carrot, egg, or coffee bean?
